Harper Lee had written the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. She made this novel based on a six year old girl in the 1930 ́s. Harper had first written this book in a thirty year olds perspective, but the publishers told her to rewrite it to sound like a six year old's perspective. This book was written about the 1930’s and was published in the 1960ś. Harper Lee says this book was not an autobiography, but this book has many similarities to her life. For example, Harper Lee’s father was a lawyer, just like Atticus Finch. Also, Lee’s childhood friends have said that she was a tomboy, just like Scout from her novel.
The novel, “ To Kill a Mockingbird” was written as a racist setting from the 1930’s. Two kids Scout and Jem have to go on an adventure to figure out if their neighbor Boo-Radley is alive or a spirit. Atticus Finch is the father of these two kids and a lawyer who hides a disguise of his past. In the novel you will find a lot of symbolism about neighbor’s and certain items that are said. The main part of the book is that Atticus Finch has to defend a black man in a trial. Tom Robinson has been accused of sexual assault against a white women. Atticus's job is to defend Tom by keeping himself together through all the racial comments. It is the reader's job to figure out who is guilty and who the Mockingbird is.
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, there were many parts that were both good and bad. For example, in the novel the trial was very good, and had a lot of interesting parts with it. The trial had a lot of details and it was very clear on what was going on, so we liked it. But after the trial happened it got very confusing and boring. We did not like the end of the book after the trial as much as during and before the trial. The end was not as good as we had hoped it would be, and was not what we were expecting. We would have liked to seen Jem wake up the next day, and found out if he will ever play football again.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, every character has an authentic role in the novel. Atticus finch has a roll of protecting his children and being a lawyer. He has a disguise of being a good person to hide the past. Jean louise Finch better known as scout is a tomboy. She feels to get in a fight with anyone who calls her daddy names. She just wants her daddy to understand her more. Her brother Jem Finch is a normal and curious boy. He always loves to creep around his neighbor Boo-Radley’s house. He likes to play outside with his sister and friend. Then there is his made Calpurnia. She is like a second mom to Jem and Scout. She has been there since day one. Which is because Jem and Scout’s mom died when they were young. Calpurnia plays a big role as to being a mother for her kids and her slave owners kids. Atticus Finch allows her to give discipline to his children and he considers her as apart of his family.
We would rate the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird 3.5/5 balegdeh’s. We really enjoyed reading this book, because there were a lot of figurative language, cliff-hangers, symbolism, and more. We really liked how Harper Lee added this into the book, because it would make the book more interesting and fun to read. The symbolism throughout the chapters, helped us understand more about the characters and how they are really like. The reason why we didn’t give the novel a higher rating was because, at some points it was very confusing, there were some unanswered questions, and the ending was a bit disappointing. In all, we really liked reading this novel since it was challenging for us, and very enjoyable.
